A Quick Guide to Tumblr Analytics

Tumblr has gone from quirky startup to billion-dollar acquisition by Yahoo! in six years – and with more than 100 million blogs and 50 billion posts so far, the microblogging platform is here to stay.

Once known for its lack of advertising and monetization opportunities, Tumblr has recently taken steps to appeal to brands and marketers, including sponsored brand posts.

However, it still does not have any built-in metrics, so reading your Tumblr analytics requires a third-party platform. Last November, Tumblr announced its first endorsement of a metrics platform: Union Metrics. Let’s take a look at Union Metrics and two other competitors.

1. Numblr
Cost: Free
Numblr was the first analytics tool created specifically for Tumblr. It’s a quick way to track your blog and its competitors. Simply type in the name of any Tumblr blog to get started. Here, I used one of my favorite Tumblrs as an example.

As you can see, Numblr doesn’t get too deep into the nuts and bolts of analytics, but you do get a broad overview.

2. Piqora
Cost: Free Beta
Formerly known as Pinfluencer, this platform tracks Tumblr analytics as well as Pinterest and Instagram. The algorithm-based system helps you track the following:

  • Post-by-post engagement
  • How often your brand is mentioned
  • Hashtag data
  • Influential users who mention your brand
  • Audience reach in real time
  • Competitors’ engagement rates
  • Aggregated audience interests

3. Union Metrics
Cost: Free – $999
The first official Tumblr-endorsed analytics platform, Union Metrics offers paid subscriptions ranging from $199-999/month for big brands, with new options for individual bloggers – track one blog for free, or three for $25/month. There’s currently a waitlist for the free option.

Track the following with Union Metrics:

  • Post and notes counts over time
  • Followers
  • Performance of individual posts
  • Influencers
  • Blog tags and post types
  • Spread of reblogs
